Getting Settled

At the time of this writing, i am sitting on the beach, under a palm tree. Exactly where i wanted to be. Its a beautiful Sunday afternoon, probably 85 degrees.  We have been here for two weeks now, and man am i happy we did this.

So we had a few days off together to do the unpacking.  For two people who basically got rid of most of their stuff, we still have a lot of stuff.  We put things where they will live for the time. A lot of it won't have to get packed when we go back, so thats a cool thing.  Until things start to fly while we are driving. πŸ˜„

The kitchen is small. Tiny fridge. Small pantry. Plenty of cabinet space. Not a lot of counter space, but i make it work. Jessica bought me a new grill, so ill be cooking outdoors most of the time.  The awning is out and the lights are up. It really feels like home.  We've met some cool people. Nice neighbors.  The park is just...groovy. There's a great vibe here. Very mellow. A perfect place for an aging hippie.

Oh! Let me tell you about the job. Coyote Grill at Roadrunner RV Resort. After our last trip here to talk with people about stuff, i was back at work a day or two before it hit me. Meep meep! Watch out for falling anvils!🀣

It's  a cool little place. Handful of tables inside and outside. Just a groovy place. The first time we ate here back in March of this year, i thought this would be a good place to work if we ever got here. Then, when it became real,  I gave my name and number to the waitress and told her my story.  There were a few phone calls, and left it at "see you when i get there."

We were sitting down to eat breakfast when Jessica tells the waitress, "This is Dan. He's your new cook." She was happy to see me. "We have been waiting for you." She said then disappeared.  Few minutes later the owner comes out. Had a really nice conversation with her and she told me to be here Wednesday.  That was cool because it gave us a few days to unwind and unpack stuff.

How many people do you know that have had a successful job interview in flip flops, shorts and a Motorhead t shirt?  Now you know one!

The job itself is pretty cool. Its your standard breakfast, lunch and dinner 4 nights a week. Fast paced, high volume and good food. So, im in the right place. The people are all really cool. I work with two other cooks. They are great. A kid who washes dishes, does prep and can step in when it gets crazy. A full wait staff and various other people who do things around the park.

It all sounds too good to be true, and i cant believe it myself, but it is. I still pinch myself every once in a while just to make sure its happening. Im so happy part one of this adventure has been successful.

News update. So, we were initially scheduled to be here until January.  There is a long waiting list for spots here and we were hoping something would happen to keep us here. I may or may not have mentioned it to my boss and my fellow cooks, hoping for the best. Today, i was pulled aside and told we had secured a spot, the very spot we are in until April. They liked me enough to want to keep us around.  So that is super cool!
